Query:
Please explain to me the origin of Vedanta? Is it Another religion? Or Did Brahma...
Shiva impart these teachings to humankind?
Vijay
Kumar:
I deeply
appreciate your clarity of expression. Vedanta in Hinduism is also termed as Bhagavad
Gita... the doctrine preached to mankind by Lord Krishna in the battle of Mahabharata.
Vedanta in Hindi means the end of Veda. In Hinduism we have four Vedas... the
Rig Veda, the Sama Veda, the Atharva Veda and the Yajur Veda.
All
the four Vedas are voluminous documents... treatises on various subjects! For
an individual human being... a commoner to digest the knowledge contained in four
Vedas is simply impossible. To ease out the problem for the common man... God
Almighty squeezed through all the Vedas into one simple document... the sacred
Bhagavad Gita!
Vedas...
the spoken word were directly invoked from God Almighty... they are direct words
from God Almighty! The essence of all the four Vedas... the wisdom necessary to
reach the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha)
is contained in Vedanta (also termed as the sacred Bhagavad Gita)!
In
present times one need not refer the voluminous Vedas. One single document...
one single scripture... Vedanta (aka the sacred Bhagavad Gita) is sufficient to
reach the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation when human beings
gain enlightenment and finally salvation. For all practical purposes Vedanta is
the end of all... the end of the Vedas!
The
doctrine of Vedanta... the message of Bhagavad Gita was given to the masses by
Lord Krishna when he preached the doctrine of Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna in the battle
field of Mahabharata. Vedanta summarizes the gist of life from the first manifestation
(the form of an amoeba) to the last... the 8.4 millionth manifestation!
Vedanta
is all about knowing our real self... our soul atman within that seems to reside
within our heart! The seekers of spiritual path require the wisdom of Vedanta
at each and every stage of life. In absence of Vedanta... it is not only difficult
nay impossible to cross the ocean of Samsara (worldly life). Vedanta teaches how
continuing in Grihastha ashram (family life) one can still pursue the spiritual
goal of life!
There has never
been one like Brahma or Shiva ever on Mother Earth! Brahma is the creative attribute
of God Almighty... the Creator of all Cosmos! Shiva (aka Mahesh) is the destroyer...
the maintainer of balance in the cosmic system. Bhagwan Vishnu is the preserver...
one who runs the system... the entire Cosmos amicably!
There
has never been one like Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva. All these three entities form
the Trinity in Hinduism. All Wisdom available on Mother Earth was invoked by one
or the other Saint! Vedanta... the teachings contained in the sacred Bhagavad
Gita was imparted to the humanity by Lord Krishna in Mahabharata.
It
must be clearly understood that the wisdom of Vedanta... the sacred Bhagavad Gita
was known to Lord Krishna for he was an Avatar of the era (God manifest in human
form)! Whenever conditions on Mother Earth deteriorate beyond control of mankind...
the world witnesses the advent of an Avatar who re-establishes Dharma (righteousness)
over adharma (lawlessness)!
Vedanta
for all practical purposes is a doctrine closely followed by walkers of the spiritual
path. One who needs knowing God Almighty and his domain... ventures into the wisdom
contained in Vedanta... the sacred Bhagavad Gita! For living the physical manifest
part of life... the 70 to 80 years span of life... the sacred Ramayana is sufficient!
For
knowing the real self of us... for realizing self... for gaining enlightenment...
for reaching the stage of god realization... the wisdom of Vedanta is absolutely
essential! The teachings contained in the Vedanta are not meant for the common
man... one who never desires pursuing the cosmic goal of life!
I
was born in a Jain family yet... the wisdom of Vedanta is foremost for me! Lord
Krishna came about thousand years earlier to Bhagwan Mahavira... the 24th preceptor
Tirthankara of Jainism! The teachings of Vedanta contain absolute purity. One
who can infer the wisdom contained in the 700 verses (shlokas) of Vedanta ultimately
realizes self!
Vedanta
can never be literally understood. One has to read between the lines to digest
the wisdom contained in the sacred Vedanta. For a serious seeker of spirituality...
to understand the wisdom contained in Vedanta one needs following the path of
absolute truthfulness! Practicing absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12
years is also a must.
Following
the Shavasana path of yoga and the path of Neti (not this, not this) as preached
and advocated by Maharishi Ramana... one finally transcends the barriers of physical
manifest life. When young 11 years of age I started in search of God. By 13 my
desire turned into firm conviction... come whatever may in this life I would see
and meet God!
As
I neared the goal of my life... the wisdom of the sacred Bhagavad Gita unfurled
before me gradually. The moment I realized God on third of August 1993... The
gist of life... the wisdom of Vedanta became clear to me like ABCD. It was as
if I had dictated the doctrine of Vedanta in one of my earlier manifestations.
The
moment my family responsibilities complete... I shall be writing a 4000 page commentary
on Vedanta. This one document shall make the essence of Vedanta reach the masses!
This is how God Almighty ordained my life. I have reached the Mount Everest of
spiritual pursuit. Nowhere else to go further... I am imparting the wisdom of
Vedanta through various articles and essays on my various web sites.
Awakening
of the Kundalini is an essential requirement for understanding the gist of Vedanta.
The full awakening of the Kundalini requires our practicing absolute celibacy
voluntarily for a minimum period of 12 years in a go. They are no short cuts on
the spiritual path! Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed...
all did it!
In
the past about 150 years only two persons have gained enlightenment... Sri Ramakrishna
Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana! Both these spiritual stalwarts practiced absolute
celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years before their Kundalini awakened fully.
We
must also remember that every religion is a following of an enlightened master...
something totally different from doctrines and treatises! The sacred Vedanta is
a doctrine whereas various Upanishads are treatises by enlightened sages of their
era! The doctrine of Vedanta and the wisdom contained in Upanishads is not meant
for the ordinary mortal. Those who seek spirituality need pursue the doctrine
of Vedanta and the Upanishads.

Can you explain to me the origin of Vedanta? Is it another product of the human
mind? Another religion? Or
Did
Brahma incarnate (as Shiva
.) who imparted these teachings to humankind?
Please elaborate, explain and give sources. In my opinion Vedanta or Sanatan Dharma
is NOT a religion.
