Query:
How do we breath properly so as to awaken our soul atman? By purely practicing
breathing and thinking of GOD almightly, do we self realise? Must we practice
in a yoga posture, corpse pose? Does breath of fire and pranayama help?
Vijay Kumar:
The
question is not of breathing but who breathes! While lying in the Shavasana pose
of yoga... we need to concentrate on the process as a whole! We need to think...
who is it that is breathing? From where does the breath enter and where it goes.
Cycling the whole breathing process... automating the whole breathing process
rhythmically is the essence of yoga.
Pranayama
contains the complete essence of breathing process. Some people call it Raja yoga...
others vipassana... the essence of all processes is inhaling and exhaling rhythmically!
Once the inhaling and the exhaling process have been stabilized... we need to
concentrate on God Almighty.
Lying
in the Shavasana pose of yoga... our goal should be... who am I... how am I associated
with the soul atman residing within my heart! What is the significance of life!
What is our relationship with different forms of life... the insects, plants and
animals! The deeper we dwell in thoughts... clearer becomes the working of the
cosmic system.
Day
by day... month by month... year by year we attain purity of thought by concentrating
on the breathing process. The essence of all yoga is attaining absolute purity.
Whether we lie down in the Shavasana pose of yoga or while standing... yoga meditation
can be performed in any situation!
All
yoga postures relate to maintaining a healthy body! It has been stipulated in
the Sacred Bhagavad Gita that spirituality simply does not dwell in a sickly body.
Different forms of yogic exercises help us maintain our calm. Aerobics simply
helps maintaining the body... yogic exercises not only maintains the body but
helps maintain mental balance too. Aerobics never helps establish control over
the five senses and the mind but yoga does!
By
proper combination of yoga meditation... one can slowly subdue the senses. Absolute
control over five senses is required before we establish firm control over the
mind. Controlling the five senses is the biggest task of all. Thereafter follows
the mind! Every moment thousands of thoughts pass through our brain. We need to
curtail them all.
By
proper combination of yoga meditation we need to stop the influx of thoughts to
our brain. This helps us reaching the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi early... rather
the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi is reached only after we master the five senses
and the mind. For establishing control over five senses and the mind we need to
invoke positive thoughts all the time.
Lying in the
Shavasana pose of yoga we need to cut across the shackles of the five senses that
control a human being. One by one slowly we proceed ahead on the spiritual pursuit
of life. Self realization nee enlightenment is a long journey ahead. It simply
cannot be accomplished in one life... the reason why God Almighty ordained an
earthly journey of 12.1 million years in the human form!
Realizing
self in one life clearly depends upon the will power and restraints exercise by
one! Restraining the wanton desires... greed for materialistic riches... the inflow
of negative thoughts... indulgence in unrestricted sex (a bar on the path of celibacy)
are some attributes one need exercise on the path of spirituality.
The
whole path of spirituality can simply never be defined. As many human beings...
as many paths to God Almighty can there be! Everything depends upon our working
conditions... the environs... the social structure... our relationship with people
and so on. Nothing in the field of spirituality has a definite structure!
Something
that requires to be accomplished within 12.1 million earthly years... if we need
to reach the goal within one life span of 70 to 80 years... we definitely need
to make a killing somewhere! Everything in the cosmic domain is very flexible...
one can always mould the conditions depending upon the situation!
I
would also like to clarify here that it is not our soul atman we're trying to
awaken. Our soul atman is not only indestructible... it is the main spirit behind
every human being nay every living being! The human form is simply a garment for
the soul atman within. By removing the impurities within the soul atman... we
remove the impurities within our real self... we shall ultimately realize our
real self... our soul atman within!
The
moment all impurities within soul atman remove... we regain our lost pure pristine
original form... we become a pure soul atman! The question of awakening our soul
atman does not arise! The concept of the human body and the soul atman is very
complex... not easily understood yet, for most serious seekers of spirituality...
inferring the truth behind is not difficult!
Be
it yoga meditation... be it practice of celibacy... the efforts involved in awakening
of the Kundalini... whether it be taking control of five senses and the mind or
stopping the inflow of irregular thoughts to our brain... the effort at every
stage of life is reaching the end of the journey... realizing our real self by
removing the impurities the dross within!
The
first step in the journey is traveling the path of absolute truthfulness! There
is not one attribute practicing which one gains enlightenment... there is never
a list... all depends upon what phase of life we are passing through. If I am
on the karmic scale of 8.399990 in the present life, I have 10 more lives to go
to reach the 8.4 millionth stage when one gains enlightenment automatically. What
if I am traveling at 7.399990!
I
again repeat... following the path of truthfulness and maintaining purity of thoughts
is extremely essential to proceed on the path of pure spirituality. The practice
of absolute celibacy simply helps awakening of the Kundalini and expediting our
spiritual journey. Those who do not practice celibacy also continue on the spiritual
path the longer way!
May
God bless all!
