Query:
After having stilled the mind how long to go until you reach Nirvikalpa Samadhi?
Vijay Kumar:
In
the field of Spirituality
that encompasses the whole Cosmos... to say anything with precise exactness is
always ruled out. There are numerous factors that govern the path of spirituality.
Your
meaning of stilling the mind may be different from what others infer. As we proceed
on the path of pure spirituality... we need to establish firm control over the
five senses and the mind. And what do we mean by establishing a firm control over
the senses and the mind?
Truly
speaking we do not still the mind... we simply bring all the activity going on
in the brain to stillness. Our brain acts as a receiver and transmitter of thoughts.
All the thoughts that exist in the Cosmos from times immemorial can be invoked
by anybody.
As
a normal human being multitudes of thoughts pass our brain every second. Spirituality
desires that we only invoke those thoughts that are needed by us. This is possible
if we stop the flow of undesirable thoughts to our brain. As we establish control
over the five senses.... this incessant flow of thoughts gradually ceases. Comes
a day when only thoughts that are invoked pass by!
The
stage when the flow of undesirable thoughts (thoughts that have not been invoked
by us) completely ceases... we reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi.
For
one to reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... it is also essential that we practice
absolute celibacy continuously for a minimum period of 12 years.
Let me give an example-
It
is possible for a person standing on the second floor of empire State building
to gain control over the five senses and subsequently still the mind. It is also
possible for a person standing on the 78th floor to repeat the feat. Now how does
the person on the second floor reach the highest platform of spiritual life?
This
is possible if the one standing on the second floor takes the lift straight up.
And taking the lift straight up means establishing firm control over the sexual
urges by practicing celibacy for a continuous minimum period of 12 years! It is
only then one is permitted to catch the lift straight up from the second to the
78th floor.
The monthly quota of energy provided by Almighty God to every man and woman is
required to be preserved for a minimum period of 12 years before one reaches that
stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi.
For
establishing absolute control over the senses and the mind, the biggest bottleneck
one faces is establishing control over the Prarabdha karma. And what does Prarabdha
karma mean?
In
whatever phase of cosmic life we may be... we may be doing our best in present
life yet, success is not within our capture? All efforts seem to go in vain. Why?
How do we get out of the clutches of Prarabdha karma which has not yet surfaced
(precipitated)? It is possible that the balance karma of one of our previous lives
has not yet manifested. In the field of spirituality Prarabdha karma is the only
entity that has remained hidden from us by God Almighty. It was necessary for
Almighty God never wanted human beings to venture into the past or the future.
This
unknown factor of Prarabdha karma takes care of this. To effectively cut the bonds
of Prarabdha karma... we need to know the requisite mantra which enables one to
free self from the bondage of Prarabdha karma forever. These mantras are hidden
from mankind. As one proceeds on the path of spirituality... they surface all
of a sudden.
If
one has mastered all the five senses and stilled the mind, and has also established
absolute control by practice of celibacy continuously for a minimum period of
12 years... this indicates one has reached the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi.
But, to gain
control over the five senses and the mind which includes the factor of Prarabdha
karma is a difficult one. If one says that he has been able to still his mind
on a permanent basis... this indicates one has a reached the stage of Nirvikalpa
Samadhi. I
have come across many were able to still their mind for temporal periods... this
is possible with many but to establish a permanent control over the flow of thoughts
to the mind (rather brain) is difficult but not impossible!
Here
I would like to assert that not many people in the world can establish permanent
control over the senses and the mind in a given phase of time. In the last about
150 years only two persons have been able to realize god... one was Sri
Ramakrishna Paramhansa and the other Maharishi Ramana.
It is the system of God that in about hundred years or so one or two persons at
the most amongst 6 billion people living on mother earth reach stage of enlightenment.
So was destined by God. Why? For the simple reason that if 50 Buddha came at a
time (say in a time span of about hundred years) it would be difficult for the
mankind to know whom to worship or not.
So
many institutes of self realization exist on mother earth today... I would insist
that not one can impart the teachings of self realization as is required for a
true seeker of spirituality. Why?
The
gurus of the self realization centres themselves are not self realized. How can
the true teachings of self realization be imparted by one when the master himself
is not self realized.
Both Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana never established ashram
of their own. There was no need for that. They simply lay on a cot and replied
to the queries of various seekers who queued themselves before the self realized
masters.
The gurus
and the spiritual masters of today desire that the masses seek an audience with
them. In most of the cases it is a fat donation that makes the meetings easier.
In the house of God... the spiritual masters are always available to the mankind
as freely as the air we breathe and the water we drink. Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa
and Maharishi Ramana were the true self realized masters of the era who lived
for the mankind.
In
the field of spirituality I repeat we must never look back... the path of spirituality
for every individual is different yet, the goal for all is the same.
I started in search of God at the age of 13 years. I had the goal in front of
me and a life full of anxiety. I searched for a Guru... I could find none. I requested
God and he agreed to become my Guru.
When
I was about 28 years of age... I had reached the stage of Swami Vivekananda. I
continued further... I had to become a Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharishi
Ramana within this life. I continued on my spiritual journey with unwavering faith.
Come whatever
may... even God Almighty himself could not have removed me from my path. I had
to go on and on in search of God. I had to do it within this life. Come 37 years
of age and God Almighty gave me a darshan on the third of August, 1993.
Thereafter
it was a permanent communion with God Almighty. I had reached the source of all
cosmic wisdom. Bhagavad
Gita and the
Upanishads are like ABCD to me. I have never read Bhagavad Gita or
the Upanishads but the content of the same appear to me as if I had written them
in one of my earlier manifestations.
The foremost essence of your query lies in the fact... how much more to go...
how much more to go... before I realize God! The spiritual path is a journey unknown.
Most of the factors in the spiritual pursuit remain hidden... we have to continue
with the journey keeping absolute faith in God Almighty and our ability to continue
with the journey in spite of all hindrances... come whatever may!
God
Almighty has programmed the system that one realizes god after passing through
a chain of 8.4 million manifestations altogether (an earthly journey of about
96.4 million years)... a long journey indeed! Our reaching the human form indicates
we have already passed through 7.3 million manifestations... starting from amoeba
(single cell formation)... the first manifestation and subsequently through insect
life, plant life and animal life.
In
the human form also there are about 1.1 million manifestations... this indicates
that the journey is not intended to be short. 1.1 million Manifestations tentatively
amount to an earthly journey of 12.1 million years. What value is of one life
of 70 to 80 years compared to the total life span of about 12.1 million earthly
years to be spent as a human being?
Does it mean that even as a human being one requires a maximum of 12.1 million
years of earthly life to reach the level of an enlightened being, yes it is so!
Becoming a Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharishi Ramana is not that simple.
Even Swami Vivekananda was never after gaining self realization. He simply wanted
to serve the community. Paucity of funds even failed him in that.
The
poor man died of a heart stroke... for he could not bear the society unwilling
to give donations unless they had their names scripted in golden letters as the
donors. He went to the west in search of money... he wanted to barter spirituality
with money but the west did not heed to his request... he returned brokenhearted.
In
the field of spirituality... the path is truly heartbreaking... the prime reason
why Jesus
Christ was born in a barn. A true spiritual leader gives everything
in return for a vision of God... rather he surrenders himself fully. Only then
one gains self realization in the end.
It is not people like Bill Gates who are remembered for their donations for the
cause of eradication of AIDS. The Melinda Gates foundation always looks forward
to the name and fame their donations carry.
To
the contrary it is the humble Madame Curie who laid her life for the cause of
humanity... searching for radium in radioactivity rich pitchblende made her body
decay to death but she always remained unfettered by the drag of her noble cause.
To
sum up, I would say that the sweet small inner voice of your atman the soul within
your heart would always tell you of the right path. If you abide by the dictates
of the sweet small inner voice... the end of your journey would not be far!
