The self,
the essence of every living being... the only real thing present within a human
being and all other forms of life is the only subtle truth in the cosmic system.
The self never relates to the physical self of every Jiva (living being).
For
understanding the self we need to dive deep into the cosmic system... we need
to understand the basics of every life form... how it is created and the purpose
of it?
Fundamentally, the cosmic system itself would not have been required at all if
there was nothing like "the self"... our true self present within us in form of
our soul the atman within. When people ask why at all God created the cosmic system...
even in Bhagavad Gita,
there is silence on this matter for... to sum up I can only say that, "we are...
and so we are".
Our
existence itself indicates that we are not required to know why we are here...
we come unto this World not of our own making... we just come and when it is the
time for leaving... our atman the soul within leaves the body and the body eventually
decays and vanishes. Primarily, we are not supposed to enter this particular domain
of God for it is not for us to question God, why he made this cosmos?
I shall be able
to explain how we arrive at this stage of life... the manifest form of a human
being... but not why at all God created this cosmos... we are debarred forever
for asking this question? Only a god realized soul... an enlightened one comes
to know the reason why God created this cosmos but an ordinary mortal is not supposed
to... rather is not competent to decipher why God created this cosmos? Even if
I desire to explain the reason why God created the cosmos... it would not be clear
to the common masses for they would not be able to decipher the language unless
they reach the stage of emancipation... the stage of gaining enlightenment!
Talking of "the self"...
I shall start from the point of the beginning of the cosmos... the point when
a new cosmos starts with a
Big Bang... this seemingly loud explosion cannot be conceived by an
ordinary mortal for one single explosion results in formation of a cosmos which
comprises of many universes, every universe comprising of millions of galaxies,
every Galaxy comprising of millions of stars and amongst these stars is a small
star around which rotates a planetary system we know as our solar system.
At this stage you also
need to understand why at all the cosmos starts with a big bang. Looking at the
last stage of a cosmos... the period when the dissolution of cosmos (known as
pralaya in Hinduism) starts... everything in the cosmos is just reduced to the
size of half a thumb... this aspect of the cosmic system is well defined in the
Bhagavad Gita.
And
what is this... the half the size of a thumb? Is it not the cluster of all purified
atmans (souls) in the entire cosmos... something we call God Almighty! At the
time of the dissolution of cosmos every atman the soul within automatically realizes
god... gains enlightenment no matter at whatever stage of life it may be... all
atmans (souls) having got purified... they reduce down physically to the size
of half a thumb.
This
inconceivable energy cannot sustain itself for long... it again explodes with
a big bang resulting in the creation of a new Cosmos. All atmans (souls) spread
out in an ever-expanding cosmos and in the process they are engulfed in impurities
on the way. These impure Atmans (the soul within) again need to purify themselves
and results in the evolution of a life.
It
is only through process of karma that any atman the soul within can purify itself
and come back to its pristine pure form. This journey of atman the soul within
as per Bhagavad Gita takes a total of 96.4 million earthly years... the total
journey of 8.4 million manifestations. Starting from the stage of an amoeba (single
cell formation) the first manifestation in the series of various forms of manifestations...
evoluting further into multi-cell formation, then insect life, plant life, animal
life and finally the form of a human being!
The form of a human being is the highest manifestation in the cycle of different
manifestations our atman the soul within is required to manifest. The self within
every stage of life remaining the same... the impurities keep on decreasing as
the evolution proceeds. It can be explained thus... considering the presence of
one KG of pure gold in a lump of hundred KG of gold ore... we initially need to
pass this gold ore through the process of washing for removing the surface impurities.
After the process
of washing we may observe that one KG of pure gold is now present in 95 KG of
gold ore... 5% impurities having been washed away. Subsequently as we proceed
to extract one KG of pure gold from the lump of 95 KG of gold ore... we pass the
stages wherein we observe one KG of pure gold in 80 KG of gold ore (20% impurities
having been done away with)... subsequently we have one KG of pure gold in 50
KG of gold ore (50% impurities having removed). Gradually the total 99% impurities
(the dross within the lump of hundred KG of gold ore) having removed completely...
we have with us one KG of pure gold.
If we minutely observe... we shall find that one KG of pure gold was always existed
in the lump of hundred KG of gold ore... it was there in 95 KG of gold ore, also
in 80 KG of gold ore, also in 50 KG of gold ore and finally what we have is pure
lump of one KG of gold... this is nothing else but our atman the soul within which
has crossed all barriers of cosmic life and regained its original pristine pure
form... this atman the soul within having purified itself has reached the end
of cosmic life... no further manifestations... for it has reached its last...
the 8.4 million manifestation... the culmination of all we know as life in totality!
This atman the soul
within as a bodily form gains enlightenment and finally salvation (moksha in Hinduism).
It is never difficult yet, we have to realize that the sole purpose of the present
phase of life we are passing through is for our atman the soul within to purify
itself back to its pristine cosmic glory... it is at this stage that our atman
the soul within having gained realization (enlightenment) and finally gains moksha
salvation goes to the abode of God (Baikuntha... in Hinduism).
