Define Atman: a soul is termed atman in Hinduism! Atman Hinduism forms essence of life. It is presence of an atman soul within human body that makes journey of life worthwhile! As is normally believed the form of human beings is not the end of life! Our atman soul... the spirit within human body is the absolute master and controller of human body!

Our atman soul manifested human body to work out its karma... remove dross impurities within! It is not within the capability of human body to manifest an atman soul. Our atman soul is God Almighty existing within human body in miniscule form! If an individual grain of sand is an independent atman soul... the whole mound God Almighty!

If an individual piece of puzzle is an independent atman soul... the completed puzzle God Almighty! In absence of atmans souls' life carried no meaning in cosmic system! Those who do not believe in afterlife... those who did not believe in theory of reincarnation... rebirth failed to realize that in absence of God almighty... the whole cosmos simply could not exist! Why?

The birth of a cosmos results from God Almighty (termed Brahman in Hinduism) exploding self with a big bang... giving rise to a new cosmos... a new journey of life! God Almighty is that singularity in the beginning of time which scientists’ world over often talked about! This singularity... the size of half a thumb is cluster of all pure atmans souls in the cosmos!

Does this mean... size of entire cosmos at the time of big bang was size of half a thumb... yes, the cosmic truth is so! This absolute fact of life has been explicitly made clear in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism. As per Bhagavad Gita explosion of God Almighty (termed Brahman in Hinduism) resulted in all pure atmans souls scattering all over cosmos at unimaginable speeds!

In the melee... the hurtling atmans souls gathered impurities similar as a rolling ball gathers moss! To cleanse self of dross impurities within starts cosmic life cycle of every atman soul!

The concept of entire cosmos occupying volume of half a thumb is beyond comprehension of normal human thinking... prime reason why men beings world over failed to realize gist of Bhagavad Gita! The contents of sacred Bhagavad Gita can never be understood literally... one needs reading in between the lines!

As detailed in Bhagavad Gita... definition of God Almighty is simple... the cluster of all purified atmans souls in cosmos at a given moment of time! If we exist... if atmans souls existed, God Almighty also exists! The existence of God Almighty can never be disputed... doubted at any stage of life!

As per Bhagavad Gita... existence of present cosmos is undeniable proof of existence of God Almighty! Existence of life in cosmic system is another proof of existence of God Almighty! Those who failed to realize this absolute fact of life travelled religious path... never path of spirituality... path of unknown that directly led to God Almighty!

As per Bhagavad Gita... ultimate goal of life for human beings always remained reaching our true inner self... our atman soul... the spirit within! Realizing our true inner self is what life is all about! The meaning of self in Hinduism stands for atman soul... the spirit within! When an atman soul in Hinduism manifests a body... it is termed Jiva... a body containing consciousness within!

In Hinduism the manifest body is termed Jivatma and God Almighty Parmatman!

Followers of Christianity often asked... What does atman mean in Hinduism? For a follower of religious path understanding the concept of atman soul is difficult! One needs travelling spiritual path for understanding concept of atman soul in relation to God Almighty! For reaching our soul atman we need negating our karma to zero.

Reaching our true inner self simply meant... our atman soul gaining absolute purity! The moment human beings reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) our atman soul finally regained its lost original pure prime pristine primordial form! This liberated atman soul finally entered abode of God... kingdom of God (termed Vaikuntha in Hinduism)... a point of no return!

What is atman in Hinduism... is best detailed in Bhagavat Geeta! For reaching our atman soul we need establishing absolute control over five senses and mind. Simultaneously practising Brahmacharya Vrata... absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation human beings finally awakened their Kundalini Shakti... the coiled serpentine energy lying dormant in base of spine!

Full awakening of kundalini energy finally resulted in opening of Sahasra Pushpa (thousand petaled Lotus) that existing in our brain behind forehead. One immediately reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)! Every atman soul comes back to its original pure form moment human beings gained enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)!

From first manifestation as an amoeba to last as human beings... effort of atman soul always remains reaching cosmic end of life... 8.4 millionth manifestation... when human beings gained enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)! From beginning to last every atman soul desires gaining absolute purity at the earliest!

It is only by indulgence in good karma... positive karma human beings finally negated their karma to zero! It is through the complex process of karma and evolution... life moved ahead in cosmic life cycle! In absence of karma or evolution... the whole cosmos would become stagnant... decay and die!

Of itself... no atman soul could purify of its own! Every atman soul needs a body to manifest itself! The cosmic life of an atman soul started with amoeba (first manifestation in cosmic life cycle). Subsequently it evolved into multi-cell formation, then insect life, plant life, animal life and finally forms of human beings! The human form is the highest manifest stage in cosmic life cycle.

It is only in human form our atman soul finally reached last leg of cosmic life... 8.4 millionth manifestation when human beings gained enlightenment (termed kaivalya in Hinduism)! Journey in human form is the most pleasant experience for an atman soul! As a human being it becomes our duty to assist our atman soul in reaching its logical end of life!

For reaching 8.4 millionth manifestation in present life time... one needs travelling path of spirituality... never path of religion... path of rituals! In present scientific age one never reaches God via path of bhakti yoga... path of karma yoga! For reaching God in present life time... one needs travelling path of jnana yoga (path of absolute wisdom)!

For reaching our spirit... our atman soul within... teachings of Bhagavad Gita are necessitated! One single scripture... the sacred Bhagavad Gita suffices for human beings to reach stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)... 8.4 millionth manifestation... the last in cosmic life cycle!

As we are an atman soul and not a manifest physical body... travelling spiritual path is our necessity! Whether we do it now in present life is the sole prerogative of all human beings living on mother earth. Who knows what we shall be... rather what form we manifest in next life... it is better we travel spiritual path now!
