Your query indicates... you do not understand ABC of life. Even as a child in India we were taught that we are a soul atman, the spirit within and never the manifest physical human form. If we were a soul atman, the spirit within... then how come we do not recognize our true inner self! As ordained by God Almighty we did not recognize our true inner self because of presence of ego (Aham in Hinduism). Mounted with this ego human beings indulged in karma.

After death of human body, released soul atman immediately manifested a new life form based on residual balance of karma of that moment. If matching parents were not available on mother earth, the soul atman hibernated in heaven or hell... in heaven (swarga) if residual balance of karma was positive, and hell (naraka) if negative! Sooner matching parents became available; the hibernating soul atman immediately manifested a new body and starts a new cycle of life.

In the body our soul atman, the spirit within existed in our heart. During hibernation, a soul atman existed in sun. In the core of sun, if residual balance of karma was positive and periphery of sun... if negative! In the core of sun temperatures exceed millions of degrees centigrade. It is in such high temperatures our soul atman felt comfortable. In periphery of sun temperatures were considerably less. It is in such low temperatures our soul atman suffered for eternity.

Human beings can realize their true soul atman only by traveling path of pure spirituality as detailed in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism! To negate our karma to zero, to establish absolute control over five senses and mind... to travel path of absolute celibacy, undertaking spiritual journey was mandated by God Almighty. Furthermore, it was because of presence of Maya (veil of ignorance) human beings failed to realize their true inner self!

By traveling path of spirituality... not religion human beings finally reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) forever!
