Query: Meaning of Moksha in Hinduism... Liberation in
hinduism!
Vijay Kumar: Meaning of moksha in
Hinduism is simple and clear... reaching end goal of cosmic life... 8.4 millionth manifestation when after
gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)... termed self realization by many... human beings finally left mortal
frame and gained salvation (termed moksha in Hinduism)! After reaching stage of moksha salvation... there is
nothing further to be achieved by human
beings.
The liberated soul atman finally entered abode of God... kingdom of God (termed Vaikuntha in
Hinduism)... a point of no return! From first manifestation to last... the effort of our soul atman remained
reaching end of cosmic life... 8.4 millionth manifestation... last in cosmic life cycle! Gaining moksha salvation
is the end goal of every human being on mother earth.
We may or may not want to travel
spiritual path still, end goal of life for every human being always remained reaching stage of salvation moksha!
Salvation is termed moksha in Hinduism! Moksha is equivalent of nirvana in Buddhism. In Hinduism moksha is also
termed Mukti... Liberation from cycle of birth and death forever!
For understanding moksha Hinduism we must assimilate the most important cosmic aspect of
life... that we are a soul atman on its cosmic journey of 8.4 million manifestations... an earthly life cycle of
96.4 million years! We are not a mortal human being limited by 70 to 80 years of earthly sojourn! The human form...
human life is but a temporary sojourn in the entire lifespan of soul atman... the spirit within!
We are spiritual consciousness... cosmic consciousness much beyond comprehension of most
human beings... prime reason why most human beings dreaded travelling spiritual path! People feared that by
travelling spiritual path... one had to leave confines of family... become a mendicant roaming jungles (deep dense
forests).
This is an absolute misnomer. Lord Krishna has emphasized in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism
that one who practiced yoga meditation even while remaining in Grihastha ashram (family life) was a Yogi of the
highest order! In present times we find it difficult to travel spiritual path while remaining in family... but it
is not impossible!
When 11 years of age I had a deep-rooted desire to see and meet God in this very life! By 13,
my desire turned to firm conviction... no matter what I shall find God in this very life! 25 years of yoga
meditation... I finally reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) in the wee hours of third of August
1993!
This is my last manifestation on mother earth... the 8.4 millionth manifestation! The moment
I leave my mortal frame I shall but attain salvation (moksha) and enter kingdom of God (termed Vaikuntha in
Hinduism)!
The journey of enlightenment... spiritual journey is a one-day path. One must start journey of
spiritual path after much diligence. We must complete our karma... our family responsibilities before treading
spiritual path! One must never leave family midway as did Siddhartha Gautama. Just by touching feet of wife and
child... one does not absolve self of total karma!
For reaching stage of enlightenment and moksha... karma needs to be annihilated in totality!
It is only by establishing absolute control over five senses and mind human beings finally subdued karma forever!
In the present materialistic environment travelling spiritual path almost seems impossible. Yet, for an ardent
seeker of spirituality nothing is impossible!
In my childhood I read everything related to Swami Vivekananda! I was so fascinated by
character of Swami Vivekananda that I wanted to emulate him at each and every stage of life! Practising
Brahmacharya Vrata celibacy for a period of 14 years in continuation I finally reached portals of God Almighty when
I realized God in 1993!
Journey of spiritual path has its pitfalls! Journey of spirituality is not full of thorns. My
personal experience of God says... the spiritual journey is made of thorns! Only those who exhibited willpower
demonstrated by Swami Vivekananda are fit to travel spiritual path! Journey of spirituality demands highest level
of patience, persistence and perseverance that could ever be practiced by human beings!
Most human beings remained under an illusion that God Almighty could be reached... moksha
could be attained by indulging in rituals... travelling path of religion! I have repeatedly made it clear that
stage of enlightenment... self realization... moksha can never be reached via path of religion... path of
rituals!
For reaching stage of enlightenment and moksha one needs travelling path of jnana yoga...
never path of bhakti yoga or karma yoga! Practising bhakti in present times is totally ruled out. Why? Total
submission to God in present materialistic environment is a distinct possibility... something that has not been
practiced or achieved by any human being in the past hundreds of years!
Path of jnana yoga is a sure shot method of reaching stage of moksha salvation in present life
time! Stage of moksha can only be reached by gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)... self realization in present
life! Enlightenment is gained by travelling spiritual path! And spiritual path is best travelled following
teachings contained in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism.
Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana... the two spiritual stalwarts to gain
enlightenment in the last about 150 years amongst 7 billion people existing world over... started their spiritual
journey via path of bhakti yoga but finally both switched to path of jnana yoga (path of absolute wisdom) in the
later stages of life.
Contemplation... logistical reasoning is the only way to assimilate teachings contained in
sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism! Most human beings world over tried to read Bhagavad Gita literally. No matter how
many times we read Bhagavad Gita... we can understand the underlying precepts only when we contemplated on them
following path of absolute truthfulness!
In a world full of deceit and greed... following path of absolute truthfulness is practically
ruled out! Still, sincere seekers of spirituality always find their way! Right from six years of age I have
followed path of absolute truthfulness... always and ever! Even if death bared me head-on in the eye nothing could
have swayed me from path of absolute truthfulness... no matter what!
Path of absolute truthfulness is the most important ingredient for reaching God in present
life time! Those who thought otherwise were under an illusion! Simply by taking dip in Ganges River... by visiting
temples, churches or mosques... none gained enlightenment in ones lifetime! Self realization... enlightenment and
finally salvation moksha... are not that easily achieved!
For a layman moksha means... completing journey of spiritual path at the earliest! Our
present travel in human form is limited by 70 to 80 years of earthly sojourn! Spiritual journey entails a long
journey of 1.1 million manifestations in human form... that completes in a total life cycle of 12.4 million earthly
years!
If we desire reaching moksha in present life time... we have to cut across shackles of karma...
annihilate it to zero. Furthermore practising absolute celibacy for a period of 12 years in continuation... one can
reach stage of moksha salvation in present life time!
The concept of moksha is best explained in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism! The concept of
moksha in Jainism and Nirvana in Buddhism are slightly flawed. Jainism does not believe in existence of God
Almighty. A religion that does not believe in existence of God Almighty... how could it be termed citadel of truth!
It is a different matter that Jainism is never termed a religion... it is always called a way of life!
The express rejection of God in Buddhism by Gautama Buddha explains it all! The notion of
Nirvana in Buddhism is definitely flawed. Those who did not believe in God Almighty... for whom the existence of
God Almighty is doubted... how could such a religion be termed citadel of truth! The existence of God Almighty can
never be denied... no matter what!
The concept of Mukti... liberation... salvation... moksha as termed in Hinduism is the only
truth of life! Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism contains truth but only truth. Follower of Bhagavad Gita can definitely
reach God in one's lifetime. Follower of Bhagavad Gita need not necessarily be a Hindu... any human being world
over following any religion, faith or belief can understand precepts of Bhagavad Gita and finally gain
enlightenment and moksha salvation in present life time!
Definition of moksha is easy to understand provided we have absolute faith in God Almighty! A
sincere follower of Bhagavad Gita finally cuts across shackles of karma... establishes absolute control over five
senses and mind... practising absolute celibacy for 12 years in continuation finally reaches cosmic end of life...
8.4 millionth manifestation when one gained enlightenment!
The end result of any form of yoga is reaching stage of enlightenment and finally moksha
salvation! Gaining release from cycle of birth and death forever is what moksha salvation is all about! Until there
remains trace of dross impurities within our soul atman... it keeps manifesting one form after another!
For a liberated soul atman... in absence of karma... the need for manifesting another body now
ceased to exist! For a purified soul atman... karma carried no further meaning! Karma is only necessitated to
remove dross impurities within a soul atman! After gaining absolute purity... the liberated soul atman has nowhere
else to go but enter kingdom of God (termed Vaikuntha in Hinduism)!
