Query: Where does the person's soul who has commited suicide go? Does it get free from
the bondage of manifesting a body again and again?
Vijay Kumar:
Articles on Teen Suicides: To put it bluntly... anyone who commits
suicide directly goes to hell (Naraka as we call it in Hinduism). There is no other remedy
for one has transgressed the domain of God without his permission. We are never permitted to commit suicide
and cut short the journey. Why?
In the cosmic system if we try to understand that it is our atman the
soul within that has taken the body and never otherwise... how can a Jiva (living being) leave the body on
its own. We have committed a crime that even God Almighty shall never forgive. Our living life is solely
dependent upon atman the soul within to manifest and leave the body... which too is dependent upon the
balance karma of the present
and past lives. A body can only be manifested if the residual balance of karma is not nil... in which case
the soul atman within has already left for the heavenly abode... the kingdom of God (aka Vaikuntha in
Hinduism).
By cutting short the journey... do we mean we can get a more enlightening
birth in next manifestation? Never! For if we were traveling on point number 60 in present life and for
having committed suicide we are awarded a penalty of minus five then in the next birth we shall get a body
only at a lower level that is number 55! Supposedly... the body of a human being is achieved at number 58
then it is possible that having been born a human being we may revert back to the animal kingdom for we are
short of three numbers and unless by performing the requisite karma we gain three numbers... we shall not be
given the body of a human being (the whole exercise of committing suicide coming to a naught). What a
pity!
The body of a human being is obtained by grace of God, the Almighty Creator after we cross a total of 7.3 million manifestations (right from
the stage of an amoeba, a single cell formation... the first in the series of the cosmic life and reaching
the stage of animals). It is thereafter we are born a Human Being and in the human form itself there are 1.1
million different manifestations.
Human being is the highest stage one can achieve in the cosmic system. It
is only as a Human Being one realizes God... gains enlightenment and finally reaches the stage of
salvation (moksha in Hinduism). Never otherwise! Even the gods and goddesses in heaven (aka swarga in hinduism) come down to mother earth to
secure their release from the seemingly unending cycle of different manifestations. It should not be
construed a mere statement by Vijay Kumar... the sum substance is corroborated by the sacred Bhagavad
Gita!
We have two perfect examples in history of mankind... of Gargi and
Maitreyi! Only two ladies in the history of mankind gained self realization... what to say of committing
suicide and cutting short the precious journey as a human being! God
Realization... gaining enlightenment is not possible in normal circumstances for a female. It is only
when one is born a man that one realizes God... gains salvation (moksha in Hinduism). Why so?
Ladies represent mother earth... the feminine form of God. Every woman is so imbibed with mystical powers of
motherhood (and every lady has so much of it in her) that she cannot bear wrong treatment meted out to any children
of God be it hers or not. It is not necessary that women will take care of her own offspring always... the inherent
trait of character built into her character by God prompts her to take care of all children of God. Due to this
imbibed motherhood... it becomes difficult for women to come out of the control of senses and the mind in totality
(the extremely strong bondage of moha affection takes care of that).
The bond of moha affection in a woman is so strong that anyone other than
God cannot break it. This moha (known as matratva in Hinduism) is the biggest hurdle on the path of god
realization by ladies. Gargi primarily a philosopher was a wonderful exponent of Bhagavad Gita. The cosmic
teachings at her tips... she defeated pundit Mandan Mishra in a wordily combat (shastrartha in Hinduism) and
that too on the forbidden topic of sex. The Gargi College in New Delhi is reminiscent of the importance
placed on Gargi, the enlightened one!
On other hand Maitreyi was the devoted wife of Sage Jnanavalakya. In
times of King Janaka (one who realized God in his lifetime)... Sage Jnanavalakya was a very revered saint.
Sage Jnanavalakya had two wives. One was Maitreyi and the other a woman of the materialistic world... totally
inclined towards material riches!
Maitreyi desired pursuing self realization as the goal of life for Sage Jnanavalakya had realized self. Sage
Jnanavalakya knew the path of self realization envisaged untold miseries and would be even more difficult for a
lady to follow suit but Maitreyi was equally smart. One day when Sage Jnanavalakya expressed to Maitreyi that he
desired taking leave of the family for spending balance life as a hermit... Maitreyi did not utter a
word!
Subsequently Sage Jnanavalakya called upon both wives and distributed
total wealth equally between the two. The first wife was happy as ever but not fully contented. She wanted
more for she had unfathomable wanton desires. Sage Jnanavalakya looked at her... understood everything but
kept quiet. Maitreyi watching everything asked of Sage Jnanavalakya in isolation whether possessing 50%
wealth Sage Jnanavalakya had bequeathed her make her realize God?
Sage Jnanavalakya who knew Maitreyi well apprehended this situation in
advance. He replied in the negative. As desired by Maitreyi... the 50% of the wealth given to her was also
endorsed to the other wife. How contented the other wife felt on achieving her materialistic goal of life
cannot be expressed in words but Sage Jnanavalakya could read everything in her eyes.
Now Maitreyi asked her husband whether she could accompany him to the isolation of the forests so that she can gain
self realization in his company. Sage Jnanavalakya could not say no for he understood Maitreyi even better now. He
knew that no twist of fate would make Maitreyi change her desire of achieving the ultimate goal of life...
enlightenment and finally salvation (moksha in Hinduism).
The Maitreyi College in New Delhi reminds us of the glorious life
Maitreyi and Sage Jnanavalakya lived in the yester era.
Every atman the soul within after leaving the body remains in stage of
suspension until matching parents are available on Mother Earth. Only then it manifests a new body. For any
reason if the matching parents are not available then this atman soul goes to heaven (swarga in Hinduism) or
hell (Naraka in Hinduism).
Whether Atman soul goes to heaven or hell is dependent upon the balance
of Karma it carries. If positive in nature... if one has Punya Karma in balance then Atman soul is awarded
the kingdom of heaven (Swarga). A negative balance owing to papa karma performed (sinful life) earns a seat
in hell (Naraka). There is no other stage in the life of an atman soul.
