Query: Does Videha
Shetra has anything to do with the form of a Lotus Flower in the center of the castle of Brahman... the
Dwelling Place for our atman the soul within the Heart within every
body?
Vijay Kumar:
What a wonderful subject you have
raked?
Everything in the domain of Atman (the self within) is so closely related
that once the concept is clear... one can experience the bliss of life!
Whenever quoting a paragraph from any of the Upanishads... always
mention the number of the shloka... for e.g. II/6 or II.6. (Do not forget to send the shloka number referred
in your query)
You have referred the following "Chandogya Upanishad
Excerpt"- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the center of the castle of Brahman, our own body, There is a small shrine in form of a lotus flower and within
can be found a small space.
We should find who dwells there and we should want to know him. And if
anyone asks, "Who is he who lives in a small shrine in form of a lotus flower in the center of the castle of
Brahman?"
We can answer: "The little space within the heart is as great as the
universe. The heaven and the earth are there; the Sun, the moon, the stars; fire and lightening and winds ...
For the whole universe is in Him and He dwells within our hearts."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is very well understood that our body is the temple of God. As always
found in a Hindu temple... inside the temple premises there is a pedestal on which is placed the idol of a
God... a statue of God! What does this really signify? Our body... the home of God? How can it be??? For
there is only one God and if every Human being says that his body is the temple of the real God, do we mean
there are more than one God or is it that one God is available in all the bodies...
In Hinduism, the word Brahman denotes the Creator... rather it stands
for, God... the omnipotent one, the one and only Karta, Parmatman or Ishwar whatever we may call him. This
Brahman at the time of big
bang (the creation of a new Cosmos) explodes and all atmans (souls) get scattered all over the
Cosmos. And the collective power of all these purified atmans (souls) in whole cosmos is what we call God
Almighty... the Brahman himself.
These individual Atmans now require manifesting a body so that they can
cleanse themselves. Similarly as we are required to separate 99% impurities from a lump of hundred KG of gold
ore to get one KG of pure gold. The manifested form of atman the soul within... the body itself contains in
itself the seat of God... the lotus flower located in the heart of every being. And on this lotus flower
resides our real self, our atman the soul within.
As long as the soul lives within the body... the being is alive... the
moment our atman the soul within leaves the body... the body decays and dies. The presence of the lotus
flower inside the bubbling heart is a necessity for any body to live... and this inner self is known as our
atman the soul within which is nothing else but God Almighty in its miniscule form for the definition of God
Almighty is but a sum collection of all purified atmans (souls) in the cosmos at any given period of
time.
our atman the soul within... the miniscule form of God Almighty contains
within itself a mini Cosmos which is it true replica of the mighty cosmos as we know it. The body of a human
being contains everything that is required to be known in the cosmos... the seat of Atman being within the
heart. The moment heart stops beating... all is over for the body.
If we need to tread that unbeaten path of Spirituality which only a very
few amongst billions are able to tread... we need to learn what ever is contained in Bhagavad Gita.
Everything knowable in the cosmos is contained in Bhagavad Gita... the moment the inner meaning of the
Bhagavad Gita becomes clear to one... one realizes God... gains enlightenment and finally salvation
moksha.
And what does this mean? It simply implies that our atman the soul within
has finally reached the last leg of its cosmic journey... it has reached 8.4 millionth manifestation... the
cycle of birth and death having completed... these purified Atman comes back to
its pristine glory.
We may study any Upanishad or sacred Scripture... still, everything
required of a serious spiritual seeker is contained in Bhagavad Gita... if we need to understand the complete
cosmic system in totality we need to understand the inner meaning contained in the 700 shlokas of Bhagavad
Gita. Lord Krishna preached the doctrine of Bhagavad Gita to King Arjuna in the
battlefield of Mahabharata... the famous historical battle fought between Pandavas and Kauravas in the
fields of Kurukshetra (a region presently existing in the state of Haryana, India).
Having understood Bhagavad Gita in its entirety... we do not need to read
or understand any further Scripture belonging to any religion caste or creed. By understanding the crux of
Bhagavad Gita... we travel right from the stage of big bang (the start of the cosmos) up to the stage of
dissolution of cosmos (pralaya in Hinduism).
We also need to understand here that at the time of dissolution of cosmos... the whole cosmos... the unimaginable
cosmos spread far and wide is reduced to the size of half a thumb. This half a thumb is what we call God Almighty.
Does it mean that all atmans (souls) having purified themselves combine together to form the size of half a
thumb... yes, it is so!
This mighty energy unable to contain itself again explodes with a big
bang and is created a new Cosmos.
Further, having understood Bhagavad Gita we also able to understand the
underlying meaning of the various Spiritual terms like heaven (swarga in Hinduism), hell (Naraka in
Hinduism), Videha Shetra (the region one reaches having transgressed the bodily life), the meaning of Karma,
Dharma, and most important of all why so many religions exist at all?
The seat of God Almighty is not fixed in whole cosmos... as all atmans
(souls) in the cosmos are spread throughout the cosmos... the power of God exists in every corner of the
cosmos. And we can happily say that God is everywhere.
To understand the inner crux of Bhagavad Gita... we need to follow the
path of Neti (not this, not this) and meditating on our Atman (the soul within... the real self within us)
while in the state of Shavasana... We are required to reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi and
simultaneously practicing absolute celibacy for a minimum continuous period of 12 years... we finally reach
stage of enlightenment!
Videha Shetra is the stage in the life of a serious spiritual seeker when
one having gained control of all the five senses and the mind crosses over to the stage of Nirvikalpa
Samadhi. The sooner one reaches the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... it is the stage of pure bliss for the
presence of the body cannot be felt... and one merges with the inner self. This purified Atman soul has
reached the stage of Videha Shetra... and what is left further is achieving the stage of salvation moksha...
the end of the cosmic life cycle for atman the soul within.

The Christians also has a similar refence in the Bible regarding a narrow
gate. I know it is not a place or domain for our atman to go but it is a state of bliss that one achieved. It
exists in my culture an initation ceremony to point to that. After my initiation I was able to draw
conclusions of the universal one god amongst the many cultures and religion, however I lack the discipline
and meditation require to maintain that state. Please englighten me,
